But at different times...
And although different species,
WE ARE A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN.
The story of Bubba & Rue, or who I like to call BubbaRue.
It all started with Bubba, my eight year old pup/best buddy/partner in crime. I rescued Bubba when he was just 3 months old from a shelter in Phoenix, AZ. At the same time, my roommate had rescued a litter of kittens that had to be bottle-fed until old enough for adoption. Since then, Bubba has had an endless affection for cats. Literally obsessed! I always knew he’d love having a brother or sister kitten of his own but I wanted to wait until we moved to NYC in 2016. After weeks of applying for any baby kitten available for adoption, I finally received an email from a rescue in Brooklyn. They told me they had a litter of kittens that were 7 weeks old and they would be ready the following day. The next morning I went to Brooklyn to pick up a baby kitten having absolutely no idea what they looked like. As hard as it was choosing only one, Rue stood out like no other and I took her home with me that day. She was the only all orange baby, almost identical coloring to Bubba. It was meant to be. I knew Bubba would be filled with joy the second we walked through the door and boy was I right. For the first few hours he would lay his head on my lap watching Rue climb all over me. He knew immediately how delicate she was and to be gentle. After a few hours of adjusting to her new home, Rue had no problem climbing on Bubba’s sleeping body and fell asleep herself. They instantly connected and are now inseparable. For the first month or so Rue definitely thought Bubba was her mom and Bubba loved it. He would bath her like a baby and snuggle close to her to make her comfortable. Oh wait, he still does that! Rue picked up a few of Bubba’s bathing tricks as a kitten and now gives him at least two (more like five) lickings a day. When Bubba and I would go on walks, Rue would look at us like where the heck are you going? Why can’t I come? As soon as she gained a few pounds and grew a couple of inches, she got her own harness and leash. Now she can come on walks with us. There is barely a moment when they are apart. Needless to say, they have been the best duo to watch grow up together and are too cute not to share with you!
